Summary
More than 7 billion people live on our planet. Everyday, about 200,000 new babies are also added. Over an entire year, about 80 million humans are born. Experts predict that more than 9 billion people will be on Earth by 2050. Between 1900 and 2000, the number of people in
the world quadrupled, and between 1700 and 2000 it increased by a factor of 10. When humans first turned to agriculture around 8000 B.C., 5 million people were scattered across the planet. By 1 A.D. the number of humans had climbed to roughly 200 million, increasing by only 0.05 percent each year. The population would grow slowly, but catastrophic scourges such as the Black Death, which is known for killing up to half of all Europeans during the 14th century are just setbacks. When the Industrial Revolution took place life expectancy trended upward as child mortality decreased, resulting in a population explosion that brought the total number of humans to 1 billion by 1800.
Reaction
After reading this article, I learned how the human population has grown around the world. It also explained events or things that happened that either caused a decrease in population, a small increase, or a drastic increase. It also showed how the human population over these next few years is growing exponentially and very quickly. I believe that with the population increasing to 9 million by the year of 2050 earth is going to be very crowded and humans will be very over-populated.
Summary
Earlier this year we welcomed the 7 billionth person into the world. Although this is a pretty amazing thing, the population growth across the world is dwindling our supplies. It is predicted that by 2027 there will be 8 billion people living on the planet. 90% of those will be in developing countries where the current population doesn’t have sustainable access to clean water. This sudden increase in population is going to affect water access. In the next 12 years water shortages will increase by 50%across these developing countries. This means that the accessible water in these countries needs to double before this happens. Climate change is another factor contributing to water shortage. The Earth is getting warmer and as such, wet areas are becoming wetter and dry areas are becoming drier.
Reaction
After reading this article, I learned that the population is increasing at a staggering rate and that there will be 8 billion people living on the planet in years to come. Also the increasing population i not being born in developing countries where they do not have the necessary things to survive. The key thing to focus on in this article is that 50% of developing countries where the population is increasing already has a shortage to water and that these countries need to double the amount of water that they have to make sure that they can support all of those people.
